Eastern Wyoming vs Northeastern (Colo.)
STERLING, Colo. (Interstat) — The Northeastern (Colo.) Plainsmen used a dominant performance from forwards Dodge Davis and Ethan Carter to secure a 78-64 victory over the Eastern Wyoming Lancers in a men’s junior college basketball game Tuesday night.
The win improved the Plainsmen’s record to 3-4, while the Lancers fell to 3-10. The result completed a regular-season sweep for Northeastern, which had also defeated Eastern Wyoming 67-64 just 12 days prior.
Davis powered the Plainsmen with a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Carter led all scorers with 24 points and added nine rebounds. Their interior presence was the driving force behind Northeastern’s offensive efficiency and control of the game’s tempo.
The Plainsmen set the tone early, sprinting out to a 9-2 lead in the opening minutes, capped by a Davis 3-pointer. While Eastern Wyoming found occasional rhythm, Northeastern maintained a steady advantage, closing the first half on a 9-2 run to take a 41-34 lead into the break. Carter was pivotal in that stretch, scoring the final six points for the Plainsmen, including a tip-in at the buzzer.
Eastern Wyoming’s Isiah Ayala opened the second-half scoring with a layup to cut the deficit to five, but the Lancers could not sustain a consistent challenge. Northeastern methodically extended its lead, with a key 7-0 run midway through the half, featuring a 3-pointer from Davis and a layup from Brady Greene, pushing the advantage to 62-52 and effectively sealing the game.
The Plainsmen’s ball movement was facilitated by Chase Manzani, who dished out 10 assists. Parker Davis provided another strong frontcourt contribution with 12 points and nine rebounds. Jakobe Jones filled the stat sheet with seven rebounds, three assists and a block.
For the Lancers, Jaironn Speights provided a spark off the bench, scoring 13 points in just 16 minutes of play. Drezdon Jensen added 12 points and five rebounds, while Ayala finished with 12 points and four rebounds. Toney Collins contributed seven points and five rebounds.
Eastern Wyoming struggled to contain Northeastern’s offensive attack and was unable to put together a significant scoring run in the second half to close the gap. The Lancers have now lost four of their last five games.
The Plainsmen, who were projected with a 69.5% probability to win by Interstat’s ELO system, will look to build momentum when they host Northwest College in a weekend series starting Friday. Eastern Wyoming returns home to face McCook Community College on Friday.
