San Francisco vs Los Angeles Southwest
LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — An undefeated San Francisco Rams squad will face the Los Angeles Southwest Cougars in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Friday in the Alvin Hunter Classic.
The Rams (3-0) enter the contest with significant momentum, coming off a dominant 118-59 victory over Redwoods on Nov. 7. San Francisco’s defense has been stifling, holding its first three opponents to an average of 57.7 points per game. In their season opener, the Rams routed Butte 105-63.
Los Angeles Southwest (2-1) looks to build on its most recent result, a 100-95 road win against Rio Hondo on Nov. 5. The Cougars’ attack was led in that game by Caron Smith, who scored 25 points, and Hosea Steele, Jr., who nearly recorded a double-double with 8 points and 10 rebounds. Omar Gardner added 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Cougars’ lone loss this season came against Mount San Jacinto, 106-93, on Oct. 31.
Friday’s non-conference game, organized by the California Community College Athletic Association, will be a test for the Cougars’ offense against a San Francisco team that has yet to be challenged. The Rams’ high-scoring attack will look to continue its hot start against a Los Angeles Southwest team seeking a statement win on its home court.
