LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — A pair of Los Angeles men’s junior college basketball teams on early-season winning streaks will clash Wednesday when the Los Angeles Pierce Brahmas visit the Los Angeles Southwest Cougars.

The Brahmas (1-0) are coming off a 62-57 road victory over Porterville this past Saturday. Andrew Shackelford led the way with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Jalen Thomas added a team-high 16 points.

The Cougars (2-1) have won two straight, most recently a 100-95 shootout at Rio Hondo last Wednesday. Caron Smith poured in 25 points in that contest, and Omar Gardner nearly recorded a triple-double with 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Pierce, which opened its season with the narrow win, will look to remain undefeated. Southwest, averaging 95 points per game in its two victories, will test the Brahmas’ defense.

The intradistrict matchup is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff at Los Angeles Southwest College.
