Barton vs Coffeyville

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. (Interstat) — A men’s junior college basketball showdown between two of the region’s top teams is set for Saturday when the Barton Cougars visit the Coffeyville Ravens.

Barton brings an 8-1 record into the contest, riding a five-game winning streak. The Cougars are coming off a hard-fought 73-70 home victory over Colby on Tuesday, powered by a 26-point performance from Aris Rodriguez.

Coffeyville, at 5-1, has been nearly as dominant, winning its last four games. The Ravens are fresh off a 78-62 road win against Seward County, where Konstantin Popovic scored 19 points and Jack Sorrell recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Cougars’ offense has been consistent, averaging over 76 points per game during their current streak. Their lone loss was a 70-66 defeat at Mineral Area on Nov. 5.

Coffeyville’s only blemish was a 98-75 loss to Butler (Kan.) on Nov. 19, but they have since responded with decisive victories, including a 99-76 win over Independence.

The matchup will feature Barton’s high-scoring attack against a stout Coffeyville defense that has held its last two opponents under 65 points. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Nellis Hall.
