State Fair vs Highland (Ill.)
HIGHLAND, Ill. (Interstat) — The State Fair Roadrunners and Highland (Ill.) Cougars, two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking a winning record, will meet Friday night.
State Fair (2-3) enters the contest looking to rebound from an 80-85 road loss to Barton on Nov. 11. In that game, Ibraheem Sylla posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. The Roadrunners’ season has been marked by inconsistency, with their two victories coming against Southeastern (82-62) and Olney Central (78-69).
The Highland Cougars (3-3) have momentum from a 75-58 road win over Harry S Truman on Nov. 20. That victory was part of a recent two-game winning streak, which also included a 66-57 win at Richard J Daley. The Cougars have shown a stark contrast in performance, suffering lopsided losses to Mineral Area and Moberly Area but also delivering a dominant 95-55 home win over Wilbur Wright.
Both teams face a quick turnaround, with State Fair scheduled to host Southwestern Illinois on Saturday and Highland set to travel to Moberly Area the same day. Friday’s matchup will be a test of which team can carry its recent flashes of success into a pivotal non-conference game.
