Daytona State vs Gulf Coast State

PENSACOLA, Fla. (Interstat) — An undefeated record will be on the line when Gulf Coast State hosts Daytona State in a men’s junior college basketball showdown Tuesday at the Pensacola State Thanksgiving Classic.

The Commodores (7-0) are off to their best start in recent years and are coming off a 74-70 victory over Jones on Monday. Their perfect mark, however, will be tested by a Daytona State Falcons squad that is 5-1 and boasts one of the most potent offenses in the region.

Daytona State averages over 100 points per game and is fresh off a 106-60 rout of Southern Crescent on Nov. 15. In that win, Noah Mendy and Alex Harper each scored 16 points, while Seydina N’Diaye added nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks. The Falcons’ only blemish is a 101-99 overtime loss to Northwest Florida State.

Gulf Coast State’s path has featured closer contests, including a 93-90 overtime win over Three Rivers to open the season and a four-point victory in its last outing. The Commodores have shown an ability to win both high-scoring affairs and defensive battles.

The neutral-court matchup in Pensacola pits Gulf Coast State’s unblemished resilience against Daytona State’s explosive scoring, setting the stage for a premier non-conference clash during the holiday tournament.
