Imperial Valley vs Santa Ana

EL CAJON, Calif. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in early-season fortunes will be on display Friday when the undefeated Santa Ana Dons face the winless Imperial Valley Arabs in a men’s junior college basketball game at the Cuyamaca Tournament.

Santa Ana (3-0) enters the contest riding a wave of high-scoring victories. The Dons are coming off a 102-81 win over Chaffey on Wednesday, following a 89-75 victory against San Diego Mesa and a season-opening 73-62 win at Long Beach.

Conversely, Imperial Valley (0-2) is searching for its first win after a pair of lopsided defeats to open the season. The Arabs fell 91-44 to Palo Verde on Saturday after a 96-69 loss to Copper Mountain the previous day. Imperial Valley has been outscored by an average of 37 points in its two games.

The matchup, organized by the California Community College Athletic Association, pits one of the region’s hottest starts against a team looking to find its footing. Serigne Saliou Mbaye has been a bright spot for the Arabs, scoring 11 points in 16 minutes during the loss to Palo Verde.

Friday’s game will be the first of three tournament contests for both teams as they continue non-conference play.
