WALNUT, Calif. (Interstat) — The Mount San Antonio men’s basketball team will look to rebound from a season-opening loss when it hosts Grossmont in the Gene Victor Memorial Tournament on Thursday.

The Mounties (0-1) are coming off a 88-78 road defeat against Citrus on Oct. 31. Grossmont (0-0) will be playing its first game of the season.

In their opener, the Mounties showed offensive firepower but were unable to contain Citrus. They will aim for a stronger defensive performance in their home tournament.

The Griffins last took the court in a 65-59 exhibition loss to Cuyamaca back in February. Guards Dayvon Gates and Omari Abdallah are expected to be key contributors for Grossmont after productive showings in that contest. Gates scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Abdallah added 18 points and seven boards.

This non-conference matchup between California community college programs tips off a busy opening month for both teams. Mount San Antonio will look to use its home court to even its record, while Grossmont seeks a fresh start to its 2025 campaign.
