IRVINE, Calif. (Interstat) — Two undefeated California junior college men’s basketball teams will put their perfect records on the line Thursday when Ventura faces Canyons in the Irvine Valley Classic.

The Ventura Pirates (2-0) and Canyons Cougars (2-0) are both coming off dominant home victories.

Ventura enters the contest following an 88-56 rout of Riverside last Friday. The Pirates also opened their season with an 86-81 win over Saddleback on Oct. 30.

Canyons arrives with matching momentum, having defeated Cuyamaca 87-66 on Saturday after a season-opening 87-59 victory over Barstow the previous day.

The neutral-site matchup pits two early-season offensive powerhouses against one another. Both teams have consistently scored in the high 80s, suggesting a potential shootout.

Following this tournament game, Ventura’s next contest is Nov. 18 against Los Angeles Southwest. Canyons is next scheduled to host Chaffey on Nov. 15.
