Gavilan, American River Set for Season Opener at Cabrillo Tournament

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Gavilan Rams and American River Beavers will open their men’s basketball seasons Saturday in a neutral-site California Community College matchup at the Cabrillo Tournament.

Both teams enter the contest with 0-0 records, looking to put difficult endings to their previous campaigns behind them. Gavilan concluded its 2024-25 season with a 77-61 home loss to San Jose on Feb. 12, 2025. American River’s last outing was a 109-60 road defeat to Santa Rosa on Feb. 21, 2025.

The game is projected to be a tightly contested affair. Interstat’s game simulator forecasts a 100-100 tie, suggesting a potential overtime battle between the Rams and Beavers.

The tournament opener serves as the first of a demanding early-season stretch for both squads. Gavilan will face a quick turnaround, playing San Joaquin Delta on Sunday. American River will also play Sunday, taking on host Cabrillo.

Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025.
