COMPTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Compton Tartars and West Valley Vikings will tip off a new season Friday night in Saratoga, each looking to erase the memory of a lopsided loss that ended their previous campaign.

The men’s junior college basketball opener for both teams pits the visiting Tartars against the Vikings at West Valley College. A Interstat game simulator projects a 100-100 tie, suggesting a tightly contested matchup.

Compton finished its last season with an 80-60 road loss to Mount San Antonio on March 1. West Valley’s most recent outing was a 68-40 home defeat to San Bernardino Valley on March 13. Both teams enter with 0-0 records.

The game marks the start of a challenging early schedule for Compton, which plays at San Jose the following night. West Valley begins its season with a week off before traveling to face Fullerton on Nov. 6.

Friday’s winner will gain early momentum in California community college basketball before the bulk of the conference schedule begins in the new year.
