Western Nebraska vs Eastern Arizona
THATCHER, Ariz. (Interstat) — The Eastern Arizona Gila Monsters delivered an offensive clinic, overwhelming the Western Nebraska Cougars 111-73 in a men’s junior college basketball game on Friday night.
From the opening tip, the Gila Monsters established a dominant and efficient pace, building a commanding 54-27 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looking back. The victory improved Eastern Arizona’s season record to 2-3, while Western Nebraska fell to 1-5.
Eastern Arizona’s offensive performance was defined by remarkable shooting accuracy. The Gila Monsters connected on 37 of 55 attempts from the floor and were equally potent from beyond the arc, hitting 15 of 23 three-pointers. Their offensive rating of 129.6 points per 100 possessions underscored a nearly flawless execution against a struggling Western Nebraska defense.
The Cougars, in contrast, could not find their rhythm, shooting just 22 for 70 from the field and 10 for 37 from three-point range. They also struggled at the free-throw line, converting only 19 of 31 attempts. Western Nebraska’s offensive rating of 79.6 highlighted the difficulty of scoring against the Gila Monsters.
Kofi Peyton led all scorers for Eastern Arizona, pouring in 25 points in just 23 minutes of action. He was instrumental in the first-quarter explosion that set the tone for the game. Kahu Treacher added 19 points and seven rebounds, while Ryder Bush provided a versatile stat line of 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Ryan Hunt controlled the glass with 10 rebounds and dished out seven assists.
Western Nebraska was led by Amare Jackson, who scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds. Kellon Harris provided a spark off the bench with a team-high 17 points, but the Cougars could not overcome the early deficit.
The Gila Monsters also dominated the rebounding battle, pulling down 52 total rebounds to the Cougars’ 23. Despite committing 23 turnovers, Eastern Arizona’s overwhelming offensive efficiency and defensive pressure, which forced 14 Western Nebraska turnovers, proved to be the difference.
The game’s outcome defied the pregame projection from Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a 100-100 tie. However, the result aligned more closely with the system’s ELO rating, which gave Eastern Arizona a 68.3 percent probability of victory.
Eastern Arizona looks to build on this win when it hosts Laramie County on Saturday. Western Nebraska, seeking to end its losing skid, continues its road trip at Cochise, also on Saturday.
