South Georgia State vs Eastern Florida State

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Interstat) — Sean Register Jr. recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Eastern Florida State to a 79-62 victory over South Georgia State in a men’s junior college basketball game Friday night.

The Titans used a dominant second-half performance to pull away from the Hawks, improving their season record to 4-1, while South Georgia State fell to 0-3.

Eastern Florida State trailed 39-32 at halftime but erupted for 47 points after the break, overwhelming a South Georgia State team that managed just 23 points in the second half. The Titans’ offensive efficiency was the story of the game, as they scored 79 points on just 68 possessions for an offensive rating of 117.0. The Hawks were less effective, posting an offensive rating of 87.2 with 62 points from 71 possessions.

Register Jr., who also added three assists and two blocks in 36 minutes, was one of four Titans to score in double figures. Joviel Acevedo-Arroyo added 18 points and five rebounds, while Nick Oliver contributed 12 points and five rebounds. Tyson Wilson facilitated the offense with 10 assists.

Chandler Thomas led all scorers with 26 points for South Georgia State in a losing effort. Dominick Wright added 14 points and Matthew Roberts scored 11.

Eastern Florida State controlled the paint and the glass, outrebounding the Hawks 42-28 and pulling down 12 offensive rebounds to South Georgia State’s six. The Titans shot 48 percent from the floor, making 28 of 58 field goal attempts, while the Hawks shot 40 percent on 23-of-58 shooting.

Despite a cold night from beyond the arc, where they made just 8 of 32 attempts, the Titans compensated by getting to the free-throw line and converting, making 15 of 18 attempts. South Georgia State was 6 for 18 from three-point range and 10 for 17 from the charity stripe.

Both teams struggled with ball security, with Eastern Florida State committing 13 turnovers and South Georgia State giving the ball away 11 times. The Hawks were credited with six steals and six assists, while the Titans had five steals, five assists and four blocks.

The game was a tale of two halves. South Georgia State kept pace in the first half, but Eastern Florida State’s adjustments after halftime proved decisive as they steadily built their lead to secure the 17-point win.

Eastern Florida State was projected as a heavy favorite to win by Interstat’s ELO system, which gave the Titans a 78.10 percent probability of victory.

The Titans are scheduled to host South Georgia Tech on Saturday. South Georgia State will look for its first win of the season on the road against Indian River State, also on Saturday.
