Cumberlands (Ky.) vs Georgetown (Ky.)
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (Interstat) — A key NAIA men’s basketball rematch is set for Saturday when the Georgetown Tigers host the Cumberlands Patriots at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
The matchup features two of the Mid-South Conference’s top teams, with Cumberlands (18-5) looking to solidify its standing and Georgetown (15-7) seeking revenge and a resume-boosting win. The Patriots won the first meeting this season, 81-76, on their home floor on Jan. 22.
Cumberlands enters having split its last two games, including a high-scoring 94-88 road loss at Lindsey Wilson on Thursday. The Patriots are powered by guard Kyle Duke, who torched Georgetown for 28 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the January victory. Duke is averaging 24.4 points over his last five contests.
Georgetown also looks to bounce back from a road loss, falling 86-76 at Campbellsville on Thursday. The Tigers will rely on forward Julius Edmonds, who recorded a 20-point, 15-rebound double-double in that defeat. In the first game against Cumberlands, Edmonds finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Both teams have shown offensive firepower but have been inconsistent in recent weeks. Cumberlands has won three of its last five, while Georgetown has dropped three of its last five, with all three losses coming on the road. The Tigers will enjoy the home court advantage this time.
The game could hinge on the interior battle and which team controls the tempo. Cumberlands’ perimeter scoring, led by Duke, will test a Georgetown defense that allowed 86 points in its last outing. The Tigers will need a strong performance from Edmonds on both ends to counter.
Saturday’s contest is a critical juncture for both teams’ conference positioning with the regular season winding down. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST.
