Central Methodist vs Missouri Valley

NAPTON, Mo. (Interstat) — A key NAIA men’s basketball matchup with postseason implications is set for Wednesday night as the Missouri Valley Vikings host the Central Methodist Eagles at Grover C. Redford Gymnasium.

The Vikings (14-6) enter with a stronger overall record and momentum from a 85-75 road victory at Clarke (Iowa) on Saturday. The Eagles (13-9) look to rebound from a 86-70 loss at Benedictine that same day.

Missouri Valley won the first meeting this season, 70-65, at Central Methodist on Dec. 3.

A compelling frontcourt battle will feature two of the league’s top rebounders. Central Methodist’s Austin Prater is coming off a 15-point, five-rebound performance at Benedictine and has been a force on the glass, recording double-digit rebounds in five of his last seven games, including a 20-point, 17-rebound effort in a win over William Woods on Jan. 28.

For Missouri Valley, Kamari Slaughter is also in strong form, posting a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Clarke. Over his last seven games, Slaughter has averaged 14.1 points and 7.0 rebounds, providing consistent production for the Vikings.

The game is a crucial Heart of America Athletic Conference contest for both teams’ positioning. Central Methodist’s recent results have been uneven, going 4-3 in its last seven, while Missouri Valley has found a rhythm, winning six of its last seven outings.

After Wednesday, Central Methodist begins a three-game homestand, hosting Mount Mercy on Saturday. Missouri Valley hits the road for its next three, starting at Peru State on Saturday.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST.
