NEW ORLEANS (Interstat) — Bentravin Phillips scored 27 points to lead Xavier (La.) to a 74-71 men’s NAIA basketball victory over Dillard on Monday night.

The Gold Rush built a 74-71 edge in a game where neither team led by more than seven points. Xavier shot 11 for 23 from 3-point range and survived despite being outrebounded 47-40. The Bleu Devils shot well from deep, making 12 of 19, but went just 5 for 13 from the free-throw line.

Phillips added two rebounds and an assist in 31 minutes for Xavier, which improved to 12-6. Nasir DeGruy added 15 points. Dillard (9-8) was led by Ben Fort’s 13 points and seven rebounds. Devin Lewis added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Xavier forced 18 turnovers while committing 13.
