Cumberland (Tenn.) vs Georgetown (Ky.)
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (Interstat) — A surging Georgetown squad looks to continue its strong NAIA campaign when it hosts a struggling Cumberland team in a men’s basketball matchup Saturday at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
The Georgetown Tigers (12-4) enter on the heels of a 70-66 road victory over Bethel (Tenn.) last Saturday. They have won three of their last four games, with their only loss in that span coming on the road against Freed-Hardeman.
The Tigers are led by forward Aden Nyekan, who posted a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds in the win over Bethel. His consistent presence on the boards will be key against a Cumberland team with a formidable interior threat.
The Cumberland Phoenix (6-8) aim to snap a four-game losing streak. They are coming off a 93-75 defeat at Cumberlands on Thursday, a game in which Michael Nwoye delivered a dominant performance with 31 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in 39 minutes.
Nwoye has been a bright spot during the skid, averaging 17.3 points and 8.8 rebounds over his last four contests. His matchup with Nyekan in the paint will be a focal point.
Georgetown boasts a clear advantage in record and recent form. The Tigers have protected their home court effectively this season, while the Phoenix have lost three straight road games.
This contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the Mid-South Conference foes. They are scheduled to meet again in Lebanon, Tenn., on Feb. 14.
Tipoff is set for Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026.
