Georgetown (Ky.) vs Bethel (Tenn.)
MCKENZIE, Tenn. (Interstat) — A clash of NAIA men’s basketball contenders is set for Saturday when the high-flying Bethel (Tenn.) Wildcats host the Georgetown Tigers at Crisp Arena.
The Wildcats (15-2) enter on a six-game winning streak, most recently defeating Cumberlands (Ky.) 80-69 on Thursday. They have been dominant at home, boasting a perfect 10-0 record in McKenzie this season. Bethel’s offense is powered by David Starr, who is coming off a 20-point, 7-rebound performance. Over his last five games, Starr is averaging 12.6 points and 5.2 rebounds.
Georgetown (11-4) looks to rebound from a road loss at Freed-Hardeman, 80-67, on Thursday that snapped a two-game win streak. The Tigers will lean on forward Isaiah Mason, who recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in that defeat. Mason has been a consistent force, scoring in double figures in seven consecutive games.
This matchup is the first of a home-and-home series between the teams, who will meet again in Georgetown, Kentucky, on Jan. 31. It features a contrast in recent momentum against proven resilience.
Bethel’s balanced attack, which saw Chauncey Hughes III add 16 points against Cumberlands, will test a Georgetown defense that allowed 80 points in its last outing. The Tigers, however, have shown offensive potency, averaging 82.1 points per game this season.
The Wildcats’ stout home-court advantage presents a significant challenge for the visiting Tigers. Bethel has won its home games by an average margin of 18.2 points.
Saturday’s contest is a key early conference test for both squads as they navigate a competitive schedule. Georgetown will host Cumberland (Tenn.) next on Jan. 17, while Bethel travels to face Campbellsville (Ky.) on Jan. 15.
Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Crisp Arena.
