UHSP vs Bethel (Tenn.)
MCKENZIE, Tenn. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Friday night when the surging Bethel (Tenn.) Wildcats host the struggling UHSP men’s basketball team in an NAIA non-conference matchup at Crisp Arena.
The Wildcats (12-2) enter the new year looking to rebound from a rare stumble, a 70-65 home loss to Indiana-South Bend on Tuesday that snapped a five-game winning streak. Bethel has been dominant at home this season, boasting a perfect 7-0 record in McKenzie prior to that defeat.
A key player for the Wildcats is Russell Williams, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds in the recent loss. Over his last five games, Williams is averaging 7.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest, providing consistent interior production.
Meanwhile, UHSP (1-10) seeks to end a six-game skid and find its footing in 2026. The Eutectics’ last outing was a heartbreaking 96-95 home loss to Mission (Mo.) on Dec. 15, a game in which they showcased offensive firepower but fell just short. In that contest, Landon Engelage scored 18 points with eight rebounds, Justin Coleman poured in a game-high 24 points, and Bryant Odunayo added 21 points.
Defensive consistency has been a challenge for UHSP, which has allowed an average of 81.5 points per game during its losing streak. The team’s lone victory came on Dec. 11, a 72-70 home win over Oakland City.
For Bethel, the game represents a final tune-up before embarking on a tough Mid-South Conference schedule next week. The Wildcats’ potent offense, which averages over 80 points per game, will test UHSP’s defense from the opening tip.
Friday’s contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. CST start. Following this game, Bethel will remain at home to face Blue Mountain Christian on Saturday, while UHSP travels to Nashville to take on Fisk.
