Dordt (IA) vs Doane (NE)

CRETE, Neb. (Interstat) — The Dordt Defenders and Doane Tigers will look to build momentum in an early-season NAIA men’s basketball matchup when they meet Saturday at the Haddix Center.

Dordt (5-5) enters on a high note after a dominant 90-61 road victory over Briar Cliff on Wednesday. The Defenders showcased balanced scoring and efficient play, with Judson Henkel leading the way. The standout forward logged 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists in just 22 minutes in the win. Over his last five games, Henkel is averaging 13.2 points and 4.8 rebounds while serving as a versatile defensive presence.

Doane (3-5) seeks to rebound from a tough 90-59 loss at Concordia on the same night. The Tigers have struggled offensively in recent outings, failing to reach 65 points in three of their last four games. Forward Jack Wilson has been a consistent bright spot, averaging a double-double of 13.5 points and 9.5 rebounds over his last two contests. His season high came in a narrow loss to Valley City State on Nov. 8, where he posted 25 points and 11 rebounds.

The Defenders’ season has been marked by volatility, featuring both a 112-point offensive explosion and a three-game skid in November. Their defense will be tested by Wilson’s interior play. Doane, meanwhile, has found wins hard to secure, with its last victory coming against Northwestern (Iowa) on Nov. 15.

This contest opens a key stretch for both teams as they navigate the Great Plains Athletic Conference schedule. Dordt will aim to climb above .500, while the Tigers hope to defend their home court and gain traction before a difficult December road slate.

Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon in Crete.
