Quinnipiac Bobcats at Vermont Catamounts

BURLINGTON, Vt. (Interstat) — Quinnipiac will visit Vermont for a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game on Sunday at Roy L. Patrick Gymnasium in Burlington, Vt. Both teams enter at 1-1, giving the matchup an early-season chance for one side to move above .500. The Bobcats will be the visiting team, while the Catamounts will be the home team. Each team has one win and one loss, with both victories coming in their most recent outings.

Quinnipiac is coming off a 66-56 home win over Bryant. Keith McKnight, a forward, is the player to watch for the Bobcats. In that win, McKnight played 30 minutes and finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and one block. He also contributed eight points, six rebounds and one assist in 25 minutes at Michigan State earlier this season. Nas Hart added 10 points and 10 rebounds against Bryant, while Tayeshawn Cunningham-Pemberton scored 17 points with three rebounds. Quinnipiac’s other result this season was a 96-59 loss at Michigan State. The Bobcats will look to carry the momentum from their first win into a challenging road environment against the Catamounts.

Vermont is coming off a 79-67 win at Fairfield. Will Davies, a guard, is the player to watch for the Catamounts. In the Fairfield win, Davies played 33 minutes and recorded 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists. He also had 10 points, three rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes at Iona earlier this season. John Broom added 10 points and six rebounds against Fairfield, and Gus Yalden contributed 12 points, five rebounds and one block. Vermont’s other result this season was a 56-55 loss at Iona. The Catamounts will aim to use their home court and balanced production to secure a second straight victory.

The game is set for Roy L. Patrick Gymnasium, where Vermont will try to defend home court against a Quinnipiac team seeking a road win. Both teams have split their first two games and will be looking for consistency on both ends. Quinnipiac’s McKnight has been productive in the early going, while Vermont’s Davies has shown the ability to score, rebound and facilitate from the guard position. The matchup could hinge on which team settles into its offense first and whether the Bobcats can contain Davies while finding enough support around McKnight.
