Purdue vs. Arizona
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Interstat) — A spot in the Final Four will be on the line Saturday when the top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Arizona Wildcats face the seed Purdue Boilermakers in the NCAA Tournament’s West Regional final at SAP Pavilion.
Arizona (35-2), the tournament’s overall top seed, brings a dominant resume and a 12-game winning streak into the matchup. The Wildcats have steamrolled their first three opponents by an average of 28.7 points, including a 109-88 rout of Arkansas on Thursday. Sophomore guard Brayden Burries has been a catalyst, averaging 19.3 points in the tournament and scoring 23 in the Sweet 16 victory. He is supported by a deep roster featuring five-star freshman Koa Peat and international standout Ivan Kharchenkov.
Purdue (30-8), last year’s national runner-up, advanced with a tense 79-77 win over Texas. The Boilermakers have won eight of their last nine, leaning heavily on forward Trey Kaufman-Renn. The senior is averaging 21.0 points and 4.3 rebounds in the tournament, including a 20-point performance against the Longhorns. His consistent scoring surge has complemented the interior presence of reigning National Player of the Year and center John Megwa.
The game pits Arizona’s high-octane offense, which averages 86.2 points, against a disciplined Purdue squad that allows just 67.1 points per game. The Wildcats have been installed as a 6-point favorite. The over/under is 152.5.
Arizona seeks its first Final Four appearance since 2001, while Purdue aims for a second consecutive trip to the national semifinals. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:49 p.m. PDT on TBS.
