Vanderbilt vs. Nebraska

Vanderbilt, Nebraska Set for High-Stakes Showdown in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY (Interstat) — A pair of surging 27-win teams will clash Saturday when the ninth-seeded Vanderbilt Commodores face the fifth-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers in a men’s NCAA Tournament second-round game at Paycom Center.

Both teams enter with 27-8 records after decisive first-round victories Thursday. Vanderbilt dispatched McNeese State 78-68, while Nebraska rolled past Troy 76-47.

The matchup features two of the nation’s most dynamic guards in Vanderbilt’s Tyler Tanner and Nebraska’s Pryce Sandfort. Tanner, coming off a 26-point, seven-rebound, five-assist performance against McNeese, has averaged 21.9 points over his last nine games, including a 34-point outing in an overtime win at Mississippi on March 3. His playmaking will be central against Nebraska’s stout defense.

Sandfort powers the Cornhuskers’ attack, scoring 23 points in the tournament opener. He has shown explosive capability, posting 32 and 33-point games in February. His backcourt battle with Tanner is the game’s premier individual duel.

Vanderbilt, a 2.5-point favorite according to FanDuel Sportsbook, brings momentum from a deep Southeastern Conference Tournament run to the final. The Commodores have won six of their last eight, with losses only on the road at Arkansas and Kentucky.

Nebraska, the higher seed, boasts a physical frontcourt led by Rienk Mast, who had 11 points, six rebounds and seven assists against Troy. The Cornhuskers have won five of their last six, with the lone loss a 74-58 defeat to Purdue on March 13.

The Commodores will test a Nebraska defense that held Troy to 28.8% shooting. Vanderbilt has scored at least 78 points in four of its last five wins.

Nebraska seeks its first Sweet 16 appearance since 1996. Vanderbilt last reached the second weekend in 2019.

The winner will advance to the East Regional semifinals in Boston. The total over/under is 147.5 points.

Tipoff is scheduled for approximately 5:50 p.m. CDT Saturday, with television coverage on TBS.
