George Washington at New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Interstat) — The New Mexico Lobos, riding high after a dominant offensive performance, will host the George Washington Revolutionaries on Sunday at The Pit in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup.
New Mexico (24-10) enters as a considerable favorite, installed by oddsmakers as 7.5-point favorites with a total points over/under set at 161. The Lobos are coming off a 107-83 rout of Sam Houston on Wednesday, a game in which they shot 56% from the field and dished out 28 assists.
Forward Tomislav Buljan led that charge, scoring 22 points with six assists in just 21 minutes. The junior has been a key offensive catalyst, averaging 17.4 points over his last five games, including a 25-point outing against San Jose State on March 12.
George Washington (19-15) arrives after a narrow 79-78 road victory at Utah Valley on Wednesday. The Revolutionaries have shown resilience, winning three of their last five, but have struggled for consistency away from home with a 7-9 record in true road games.
They will lean heavily on forward Rafael Castro, who is in the midst of a stellar stretch. Castro poured in 22 points with three blocks against Utah Valley and is averaging 16.3 points and 5.3 rebounds over his last six contests. His defensive presence, with multiple blocks in four of those games, will be crucial against a potent Lobos attack.
The matchup pits George Washington’s recent scrappy form against a New Mexico team that boasts a significant edge in both record and offensive firepower. The Lobos average 84.2 points per game at home this season, where they are 15-3. Containing Buljan and guard Uriah Tenette, who had 20 points and six assists last game, will be the primary challenge for the Revolutionaries.
For George Washington, supporting Castro’s production will be vital. Guards Tyrone Marshall (15 points vs. Utah Valley) and Trey Autry (18 points) are coming off strong performances and will need to replicate that to keep pace.
The game tips off at 4 p.m. EDT Sunday at University Arena, known as The Pit.
