DAYTON, Ohio (Interstat) — Howard survived a late rally to defeat Maryland-Baltimore County 86-83 in a men’s NCAA Division I playoff game Tuesday at University of Dayton Arena. The Bison led by eight at halftime after scoring 49 points but were outscored 42-37 after intermission by the Retrievers. The narrow victory improved Howard’s record to 24-10, while UMBC fell to 24-9. The combined score of 169 points far exceeded the pregame over/under line of 141.5. Howard, which was projected by analytics to have only a 32 percent chance to win, advanced to face Michigan on Thursday in Buffalo, New York.
