Tulsa vs. Wichita State
Preview: Tulsa Set for AAC Semifinal Clash with Wichita State
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Interstat) — A spot in the American Athletic Conference tournament championship game will be on the line Saturday when Tulsa meets Wichita State in a semifinal at Legacy Arena.
The second-seeded Golden Hurricane (26-6) enter riding a seven-game winning streak, including a grueling 90-84 triple-overtime victory over North Texas in Friday’s quarterfinals. The third-seeded Shockers (21-10) last played on March 7, dispatching Florida Atlantic 88-70 to secure a double-bye into this round.
This marks the third meeting this season between the conference foes, with each winning on the other’s home floor. Wichita State edged Tulsa 81-77 on Feb. 14, avenging a 93-83 loss in Tulsa on Feb. 1.
Tulsa is led by AAC Player of the Year candidate Tylen Riley, who is coming off a 41-minute, 26-point effort in the triple-overtime marathon. The dynamic guard has been consistently superb, averaging over 15 points and six assists during the winning streak. His backcourt leadership will be critical against Wichita State’s pressure defense.
The Shockers counter with their own hot hand in sophomore forward Dillon Battie. He exploded for 22 points in the win over FAU and provides efficient scoring off the bench. Wichita State’s interior defense, anchored by shot-blocker Emmanuel Okorafor, will be tested by Tulsa’s balanced attack.
Tulsa’s resilience will be scrutinized after a physically taxing game less than 24 hours prior. Wichita State, rested but potentially rusty, must contain Tulsa’s transition game and find consistent offense beyond Battie’s recent surge.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Tulsa is a 2-point favorite, with an over/under of 150.5 points.
The winner advances to Sunday’s AAC championship game, with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament at stake.
