PITTSBURGH (Interstat) — VCU built a large first-half lead and withstood a strong Saint Joseph’s comeback to win 77-64 in an Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball tournament game Saturday at 84 Lumber Arena.

The Rams led 44-21 at halftime before the Hawks opened the second half with a 14-2 run. Saint Joseph’s closed within two points multiple times but never captured the lead. VCU’s efficiency proved decisive, as it committed only seven turnovers and shot 11 for 14 from the free-throw line.

Terrence Hill led VCU with 18 points. Austin Williford scored 17 for Saint Joseph’s, which finishes its season 22-11. VCU, now 26-7, advances in the tournament.
