Maryland vs. Iowa

CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Maryland Terrapins and Iowa Hawkeyes will meet in a Big Ten men’s basketball matchup Wednesday at the United Center, with both teams looking to build momentum ahead of the conference tournament.

The game, scheduled for March 11, 2026, pits a struggling Maryland squad (11-20) against an Iowa team (20-11) seeking to halt a late-season slide. The Hawkeyes have lost four of their last five games, including a 75-84 overtime defeat at Nebraska on Sunday. Maryland is coming off a 70-60 non-conference road win at Oregon on Tuesday, but had lost eight of its previous nine contests prior to that victory.

Iowa will be motivated by revenge after falling 77-70 at Maryland on Feb. 11. In that game, Terrapins guard Andre Mills scored 24 points. Mills has been a bright spot during a difficult season, averaging 21.1 points over his last eight games. He erupted for 39 points in a narrow loss at Northwestern on Feb. 18 and scored 30 in Sunday’s loss to Illinois.

For Iowa, guard Kael Combs is a player to watch. He logged a season-high 43 minutes and scored 18 points in the overtime loss to Nebraska. His role has fluctuated recently, playing 15 minutes and scoring four points in the earlier loss at Maryland.

The series has been split this season, with each team winning on its home floor. Iowa dominated the first meeting in Iowa City on Dec. 6, 2025, winning 83-64.

The neutral-site game in Chicago presents a unique challenge. Iowa, with its winning record, is likely focused on solidifying its postseason resume. Maryland, despite its record, has shown it can compete with the Hawkeyes and will rely heavily on Mills’ offensive firepower to pull an upset.

Tip-off is set for Wednesday afternoon at the United Center.
