Iowa at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (Interstat) — A pivotal regular-season finale with major postseason implications is set for Sunday when the Nebraska Cornhuskers host the Iowa Hawkeyes in a Big Ten men’s basketball clash at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Nebraska (25-5, 15-4 Big Ten), already having secured a double-bye in the upcoming conference tournament, looks to solidify its case for a high NCAA tournament seed and exact revenge for a loss in Iowa City last month. The Cornhuskers’ dominant home record, which includes wins in 16 of 17 games at Pinnacle Bank Arena this season, will be tested.

Iowa (20-10, 11-8) arrives seeking a résumé-boosting Quad 1 victory to lock down an at-large NCAA bid. The Hawkeyes have dropped three of their last four, including a heartbreaking 71-68 home loss to Michigan on Thursday, but own the head-to-head advantage from a 57-52 defensive struggle against Nebraska on Feb. 17.

The matchup features two of the league’s premier guards. Iowa’s offense runs through Bennett Stirtz, who is averaging 36.5 minutes and 24.1 points over his last eight games. He torched Nebraska for 25 points in the first meeting. The Cornhuskers counter with Sam Hoiberg, a versatile playmaker coming off a 12-point effort in a road loss at UCLA. Hoiberg recorded a triple-double (11 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists) against Penn State on Feb. 21, highlighting his all-around impact.

For Nebraska, a win would match the program’s highest victory total in the modern era and provide momentum heading into March. For Iowa, defeating a top-10 team on the road would erase the sting of recent narrow defeats and secure their postseason destiny.

Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CDT on Sunday, March 8. The game will be televised nationally on Fox.
