Campbell vs. UNC Wilmington
Preview: Campbell Faces UNC Wilmington in Colonial Clash
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The UNC Wilmington Seahawks, one of the nation’s surprise teams with a 26-5 record, look to continue their dominant season when they face the Campbell Fighting Camels in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball game Sunday at CareFirst Arena.
The Seahawks, whose .839 winning percentage ranks among the best in NCAA Division I, enter as heavy favorites against a Campbell squad that sits at 15-17. UNC Wilmington secured a 73-68 victory at Campbell just over two weeks ago on Feb. 21, part of a season sweep after also winning 78-75 at home on Jan. 17.
UNC Wilmington is led by guard Christian May, who is coming off a 22-point performance in a 76-57 road win at Elon on Tuesday. May averaged 15.4 points in the team’s seven February games and scored 13 in the most recent meeting with Campbell.
The Fighting Camels, who snapped a three-game skid with a 96-89 win at Stony Brook on Saturday, will rely on guard DJ Smith. Smith erupted for 26 points in that victory, a stark contrast to his 5-point outing in a loss at Towson on Feb. 28. In the Feb. 21 loss to UNCW, Smith was held to 12 points.
Campbell’s offense, which has shown potency with 90-plus points in two of its last three games, will be tested by a stout Seahawks defense that has held opponents under 70 points in 10 of its last 13 contests.
The neutral-site game in the nation’s capital serves as a final tune-up before conference tournament play. UNC Wilmington will aim to solidify its case for a high NCAA tournament seed, while Campbell seeks a signature win to build momentum.
Tip-off is set for Sunday, March 8, 2026.
