Western Michigan at Texas State
SAN MARCOS, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Texas State men’s basketball team looks to continue its climb when it hosts a struggling Western Michigan squad in a nonconference matchup Saturday at Strahan Coliseum.
The Bobcats (14-11) have won three straight games, most recently a 77-71 road victory at Georgia Southern on Wednesday. They are 9-3 at home this season. The Broncos (7-13) have dropped two in a row and eight of their last 10, including a 91-71 loss at Ohio on Tuesday.
Texas State’s momentum is fueled by guard DJ Hall, who is averaging 17.3 points over his last six contests. He scored 16 points with three assists in the win over Georgia Southern and had a 24-point, six-rebound performance in a Jan. 31 victory over Old Dominion. His consistent scoring and playmaking will be a primary focus for the Western Michigan defense.
The Broncos will counter with guard Jalen Griffith, who is coming off a 19-point effort in the loss to Ohio. Griffith’s production has been volatile, however, with scoreless and 21-point outings within the past month. Western Michigan will need him to replicate his high-output performances to keep pace.
Western Michigan’s defense faces a significant challenge. The Broncos have allowed 85 or more points in three of their last five games. Containing Hall and a balanced Texas State attack that saw Makai Willis add 15 points off the bench Wednesday will be critical.
For Texas State, the game represents an opportunity to solidify its winning record and build confidence before returning to Sun Belt Conference play next week. Western Michigan seeks a rare road win to halt its skid before Mid-American Conference action resumes.
The game tips off at 3 p.m. CST on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026.
