Miami (Ohio) at Marshall
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Interstat) — The nation’s last remaining undefeated team puts its perfect record on the line Saturday when Miami (Ohio) visits the Cam Henderson Center to face Marshall.
The Redhawks (23-0), one of college basketball’s most surprising stories, have navigated a tense Mid-American Conference schedule with several narrow escapes. Their last four wins have come by an average of just 4.5 points, including a 73-71 victory at Buffalo on Tuesday and a 105-102 overtime win over the same Bulls team on Jan. 17.
Guard Luke Skaljac has been central to their success, averaging 16.2 points and 6.0 assists over his last five games. He scored 19 points in the win at Buffalo and dished out 10 assists in the overtime thriller against them last month.
Marshall (15-8) presents a formidable non-conference hurdle, boasting a 10-2 record at home. The Thundering Herd is coming off an 81-77 home win over Southern Mississippi on Wednesday, powered by a season-high 25 points from forward Wyatt Fricks.
Fricks has been a defensive anchor and scoring threat, recording three or more blocks in four of his last eight games while averaging 15.6 points over that stretch. His presence inside will challenge a Miami offense that averages 89.2 points per game.
The Redhawks’ high-powered attack has topped 100 points five times this season. Marshall’s defense, allowing 73.2 points per game, will need to contain Miami’s perimeter shooting and ball movement to pull the upset.
This marks the final scheduled non-conference game for both teams as they head into the stretch run of league play. Miami continues its pursuit of a perfect regular season, a feat last accomplished in Division I men’s basketball by Gonzaga in 2021. Marshall seeks a signature win to bolster its postseason resume.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST Saturday.
