Bowling Green at Arkansas State
JONESBORO, Ark. (Interstat) — Two teams riding the momentum of convincing wins will meet Saturday when the Bowling Green Falcons visit the Arkansas State Red Wolves in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup.
The Falcons (14-9) arrive fresh off a 77-52 rout of Ball State on Tuesday, a dominant performance that snapped a three-game skid. The Red Wolves (14-10) are also coming off a road victory, having edged Coastal Carolina 70-66 on Wednesday.
Saturday’s game at Convocation Center will feature a compelling backcourt duel. Bowling Green is powered by dynamic guard Javontae Campbell, who has been on a scoring tear. Over his last seven games, Campbell is averaging 20.4 points and 5.7 assists, including a 31-point, 7-assist effort against Buffalo on Jan. 27. His playmaking will be central to the Falcons’ attack.
Arkansas State will counter with its own standout guard, Christian Harmon. He has scored in double figures in nine of his last ten contests, averaging 15.1 points per game during that stretch. Harmon’s consistency, including a team-high 16 points in the win at Coastal Carolina, makes him the focal point of the Red Wolves’ offense.
Both teams have shown resilience in close games this season but have also endured narrow defeats. Bowling Green suffered a one-point loss at Toledo on Jan. 24, while Arkansas State dropped a one-point decision at Georgia State the same day.
The Falcons have relied on a balanced attack behind Campbell. Josiah Shackelford poured in 21 points in the win over Ball State, and Mayar Wol added 14. The Red Wolves have seen key contributions from Joey Chammaa, who had 13 points off the bench last outing, and Chandler Jackson, who dished out five assists.
With nearly identical overall records, the contest presents a crucial opportunity for both programs to build a winning streak as the calendar moves into February. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon.
