Preview: Akron Looks to Extend Win Streak at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (Interstat) — A key Mid-American Conference men’s basketball clash is set for Friday night when the Bowling Green Falcons host the Akron Zips at the Stroh Center.

Akron (10-4) enters on a high note after an 82-69 home victory over Central Michigan on Tuesday. The Zips’ offense has been potent, averaging 91.4 points over their last five games, though their defense has allowed 87.2 per game in that stretch.

Bowling Green (11-5) is looking to rebound from a narrow 96-93 road loss to Kent State on Tuesday. The Falcons have shown both explosive scoring ability and vulnerability, highlighted by a 101-100 overtime win at Massachusetts on Jan. 3 followed by the defensive lapse against Kent State.

The matchup features two of the MAC’s most dynamic guards. Akron’s Tavari Johnson is coming off a 22-point, 10-assist performance against Central Michigan, his third game of 28 or more points in his last five outings. Bowling Green will counter with Javontae Campbell, who is averaging 30.5 points and 8.5 assists over his last two games, including a 47-point effort in the win over UMass.

According to Interstat’s ELO system, Akron is projected with a 74.8% probability to win. The Zips have been installed as a 3.5-point road favorite. The over/under total is set at 165.5.

The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026.
