Fresno State at New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Interstat) — The surging New Mexico Lobos look to rebound from a rare loss when they host the Fresno State Bulldogs in a Mountain West Conference men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at The Pit.
New Mexico (14-4) saw a four-game winning streak snapped in a narrow 83-79 road loss at San Diego State on Saturday. The Lobos, who boast a 9-1 record at home this season, are led by forward Tomislav Buljan. He is coming off a 20-point performance against the Aztecs and has been a consistent force, including a 25-point outing in a win over Wyoming on Jan. 3.
Fresno State (9-9) has alternated wins and losses over its last six games but is coming off a 63-60 home victory over Wyoming. The Bulldogs have relied heavily on guard DeShawn Gory, who has scored in double figures in six consecutive games. Gory averaged 14.2 points during that stretch, including a 16-point effort in a loss at San Diego State on Jan. 10.
The Lobos’ high-powered offense, which averages over 80 points per game at home, will test a Fresno State defense that has shown vulnerability on the road. The Bulldogs are 2-5 in true road games this season.
New Mexico holds a decisive edge in the recent series, having won the last three meetings. In their only matchup last season, the Lobos defeated the Bulldogs 82-58 in Albuquerque on Feb. 24, 2025.
For Fresno State, finding secondary scoring behind Gory will be critical. Jake Heidbreder and David Douglas, who combined for 23 points in the win over Wyoming, will need to contribute against a deeper New Mexico roster.
The Lobos will aim to leverage their significant home-court advantage at The Pit, where they have won by an average margin of 28.8 points in their nine victories this season. A win would keep them near the top of the Mountain West standings, while the Bulldogs seek a pivotal road upset to reach .500 in conference play.
Following this game, New Mexico hosts Nevada on Saturday, while Fresno State returns home to face Grand Canyon.
