Washington State at San Diego

Preview: Washington State at San Diego in West Coast Conference Men’s Basketball

SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the West Coast Conference will meet when the Washington State Cougars visit the San Diego Toreros on Wednesday night at Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Both teams enter with identical 8-12 overall records. Washington State (0-3 WCC) is looking for its first conference win after a challenging start to league play. The Cougars are coming off an 85-80 road loss at San Francisco on Sunday, despite 21 points from standout guard Eemeli Yalaho. Yalaho has been a bright spot, averaging 13.3 points over his last seven games, including a 33-minute, 21-point effort in the most recent defeat.

San Diego (2-3 WCC) snapped a four-game skid with a dominant 113-67 non-conference victory over Bethesda on Saturday. In that win, guard Tim Moore exploded for a career-high 32 points in just 24 minutes off the bench. Moore’s scoring punch provides a key variable for the Toreros, whose conference losses have come against upper-tier WCC foes Gonzaga, San Francisco and Santa Clara.

The matchup features teams with contrasting recent paths. Washington State has faced a gauntlet to open WCC play, with losses to San Francisco, Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s. San Diego’s conference schedule has been more varied, including a win over Pepperdine.

For the Cougars, containing Moore’s offensive burst will be critical, while the Toreros must contend with Yalaho’s consistency and the backcourt support of Ace Glass III, who added 20 points against San Francisco.

The game marks the start of a pivotal homestand for San Diego, which hosts Santa Clara next. Washington State continues a difficult road stretch before returning home to face Pepperdine on Saturday.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026.
