Utah State Routs Davidson to Remain Undefeated

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — In a commanding display of offensive firepower and defensive pressure, the Utah State Aggies remained undefeated Sunday, dismantling the Davidson Wildcats 94 to 60 in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game at TD Arena.

The Aggies, now a perfect 6 and 0, never trailed, establishing their dominance early and maintaining a double-digit lead for the vast majority of the contest before a crowd of 1,817. The Wildcats, who entered the game with a 5 and 1 record, saw their early-season success halted decisively.

Utah State set the tone from the opening tip, which was won by Karson Templin. The Aggies raced out to a 10-3 lead in the first three minutes, fueled by a Drake Allen three-pointer and a Mason Falslev layup. Davidson struggled to find any consistent offensive rhythm against the Aggies’ swarming defense, which generated numerous turnovers and contested shots.

The first half was a story of runs, with Utah State consistently answering any modest Davidson push with a burst of their own. After the Wildcats’ Roberts Blums hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 13-10, the Aggies responded with a 9-0 run to extend their advantage to 22-10. The half concluded with Utah State leading 48-30, a margin that would only grow after the break.

Any hope of a Davidson comeback was extinguished quickly in the second half. The Aggies opened the period on a 10-2 run, stretching their lead to 58-32 and effectively putting the game out of reach. Utah State’s offensive execution was relentless, and their defense continued to stifle the Wildcats, who managed only 30 points in each half.

The star of the afternoon was Utah State’s MJ Collins. The guard from Clover, South Carolina, delivered a spectacular performance, pouring in 40 points in just 28 minutes of action. His scoring outburst was efficient and came from all over the court, including several three-pointers and explosive drives to the basket. He added two assists to his stat line, capping a dominant individual effort.

Collins was ably supported by backcourt mate Drake Allen of Eagle Mountain, Utah. Allen orchestrated the offense masterfully, dishing out seven assists while also contributing 12 points and playing a key role in the Aggies’ defensive pressure with multiple steals. Mason Falslev of Benson, Utah, provided a steady all-around presence, scoring eight points, grabbing four rebounds, and recording four assists.

For Davidson, Hunter Adam from Christchurch, New Zealand, led the way with 14 points and a block. Roberts Blums of Riga, Latvia, also scored 14 points, but the Wildcats could not find a consistent secondary scoring option to counter Utah State’s balanced and potent attack. Devin Brown from Lewis Center, Ohio, added seven points and three assists.

The game was part of a multi-team event, and the lopsided result saw both coaches liberally substituting players in the final minutes. Utah State’s depth was on full display as the Aggies’ reserves maintained the high level of play, closing out the convincing victory.

The Aggies’ perfect start to the season continues a trend of strong performances, following decisive wins over Tulane, UTEP, Weber State, VCU, and Westminster. Davidson, after opening the year with five straight wins including one over Boston College, will look to regroup from its first loss.

Utah State will aim to keep its record unblemished when it returns home to face Montana State on Saturday, Nov. 29. Davidson’s next contest is at home against North Carolina A&T on Friday, Nov. 28.

The final score comfortably exceeded the pregame point spread, which had Utah State favored by 7.5 points. The combined total of 154 points went over the betting over/under line of 148.5. According to Interstat’s ELO system, the Aggies were projected with an 86.30 percent probability to win.
