Nevada at UNLV

LAS VEGAS (Interstat) — A surging Nevada looks to sweep the regular-season series and bolster its postseason résumé when it visits rival UNLV at the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday.

The Wolf Pack (19-9, 10-5 Mountain West) have won three of their last four, including a 67-60 victory over New Mexico on Tuesday. They previously defeated the Runnin’ Rebels 89-76 in Reno on Jan. 30. Nevada’s offense is powered by forward Elijah Price, who scored 21 points and blocked four shots in the win over the Lobos. In the first meeting against UNLV, Price posted 22 points.

UNLV (14-14, 7-8) seeks to level its record and gain momentum for the conference tournament after a 67-80 loss at Grand Canyon on Wednesday. The Rebels’ hopes hinge on high-scoring guard Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn, who is averaging 28.3 points over his last seven games. He scored 26 in the January loss at Nevada.

The Rebels have shown a penchant for close games, with four of their last six contests decided by five points or fewer. They will need to contain Nevada’s balanced attack, which saw Corey Camper and Vaughn Weems join Price with 20 points apiece in the win over New Mexico.

For Nevada, a road win would secure a winning conference record and strengthen its case for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. UNLV, hovering at .500, aims to protect its home court and derail its rival’s plans in one of the Mountain West’s most heated matchups.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. PST Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
