(Interstat) — Michael James sank a layup with four seconds remaining to lift Mississippi Valley State to a 72-71 men’s basketball victory over Texas Southern on Saturday at LeFlore County Civic Center. The Delta Devils, who led 36-34 at halftime, secured just their second win of the season. James led all scorers with 24 points. Duane Posey paced the Tigers with 17 points. Texas Southern, which entered as a heavy favorite, missed 9 of 28 free throws in the tightly contested SWAC game before an announced crowd of 1,012. The Delta Devils improved to 2-26, while the Tigers fell to 10-16.
