Davidson at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. (Interstat) — A surging George Mason looks to rebound from its first conference loss when it hosts a streaky Davidson team in an Atlantic 10 men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at EagleBank Arena.

The Patriots (18-2, 6-1 A-10) saw a nine-game winning streak snapped in a 74-65 loss at Rhode Island on Saturday. Despite the setback, George Mason remains one of the nation’s most improved teams and a force in the conference race, boasting the league’s best overall record. They are 10-0 at home this season.

Davidson (12-7, 4-2) arrives after a 75-69 home loss to VCU, which halted a three-game winning streak. The Wildcats have been inconsistent in league play, mixing impressive road wins with puzzling losses. They are 2-2 in true road games.

The matchup features two of the A-10’s top guards. George Mason is led by junior Kory Mincy, a versatile playmaker averaging 14.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists. He scored 19 points with six rebounds in the loss to Rhode Island and has scored in double figures in 17 of 20 games.

Davidson counters with sophomore Sam Brown, a dynamic scorer coming off an 18-point performance against VCU. Brown’s production has fluctuated, with highs of 23 and 18 points but also three recent games of three points or fewer. Containing Mincy’s all-around game and harnessing Brown’s offensive bursts will be key for the Wildcats.

George Mason’s defense, which allows just 67.2 points per game, will be tested by Davidson’s motion offense. The Patriots have shown resilience, winning several close conference games, while Davidson has struggled in tight contests, with three of its seven losses by six points or fewer.

History adds intrigue, as Davidson has traditionally held an edge in the series, but this George Mason squad presents a new level of challenge. The Patriots aim to protect their perfect home record and reestablish momentum, while the Wildcats seek a signature road win to solidify their conference standing.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
