Preview of Saturday’s Mountain West Showdown: Wyoming at Nevada

RENO, Nev. (Interstat) — A pivotal early-season Mountain West Conference clash awaits Saturday when the Wyoming Cowboys visit the Nevada Wolf Pack at Lawlor Events Center.

Both teams enter the 5 p.m. PST tipoff with identical 11-4 overall records, setting the stage for a matchup with significant conference standings implications. Each squad is looking to build momentum after splitting their first two league games.

Wyoming arrives riding high from a dominant 98-66 home victory over UNLV on Tuesday. The Cowboys’ offense was firing, led by guard Leland Walker’s 28 points in just 24 minutes. Walker, averaging 15.4 points over his last five games, will be a focal point for the Cowboys’ attack. His backcourt mate, Khaden Bennett, added 13 points in the win.

Nevada looks to rebound from a narrow 73-68 home loss to San Diego State on that same Tuesday. The Wolf Pack were led by forward Elijah Price’s 17 points. Price has been a consistent defensive presence, recording multiple blocks in four of his last five contests, including a four-block performance in a 66-65 win at Fresno State.

The Cowboys have shown a pattern of strong responses, having won decisively following each of their last three losses. Their most recent road outing, however, was a 78-58 defeat at New Mexico on Jan. 3.

Nevada holds a 4-1 record at home this season, with the lone blemish being the recent loss to the Aztecs. The Wolf Pack’s defense, anchored by Price, will be tested by a Wyoming team that has scored 87 or more points in four of its 11 wins.

This contest begins a challenging stretch for both programs. Wyoming hosts San Diego State next Wednesday, while Nevada hits the road to face Utah State on the same night.

The game will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
