Texas A&M Routs Jacksonville in High-Scoring Affair

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Interstat) — In a display of overwhelming offensive efficiency and defensive pressure, the Texas A&M Aggies dismantled the Jacksonville Dolphins 112-75 in a nonconference men’s basketball game Sunday at Reed Arena.

The Aggies, improving to 8-3, never trailed and built a 25-point halftime lead before extending it after the break in front of a crowd of 6,250. The Dolphins fell to 5-6 with the loss.

The most decisive phase of the game occurred late in the first half, turning a competitive opening into a rout. Leading 31-23 with just over seven minutes remaining before halftime, Texas A&M unleashed a 20-2 run over the next five and a half minutes, fueled by its defense and transition play. The surge featured three-pointers from Jacari Lane and Ruben Dominguez, layups from Marcus Hill and Ali Dibba, and capped by a three-pointer from Rylan Griffen. That sequence ballooned the lead to 51-25 and effectively decided the contest before the intermission.

Texas A&M’s offense operated at a blistering pace, scoring 112 points on just 79 possessions for an offensive rating of 141.9. The Aggies shot 59.2% from the field, making 42 of 71 attempts, and connected on 12 of 25 from three-point range. They dominated the interior, outscoring Jacksonville 58-30 in the paint and securing 15 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second-chance points.

The Aggies also forced 19 Jacksonville turnovers, converting them into 29 points. Their defensive activity resulted in 13 steals, led by multiple players.

Jacksonville, which scored 26 points in the first half and 49 in the second, struggled to find consistent offense against Texas A&M’s pressure. The Dolphins shot 44.8% from the field and committed those 19 turnovers against only 10 assists. They were led by Jason Thirdkill, who scored 19 points off the bench, and Hayden Wood, who added 12 points.

For Texas A&M, the scoring was balanced and prolific. Rylan Griffen led all scorers with 19 points in just 17 minutes, hitting three three-pointers. Marcus Hill filled the stat sheet with 12 points and five assists, while Jamie Vinson provided a strong interior presence with 14 points. Mackenzie Mgbako added 13 points, and Ali Dibba chipped in 10. The Aggies’ bench outscored Jacksonville’s reserves 58-34.

The Aggies opened the game on an 8-2 run and maintained a double-digit lead for the final 28 minutes of the game. Every time Jacksonville showed a sign of life, Texas A&M answered with a burst, often in transition following a steal or defensive stop. The lead grew as large as 41 points in the second half before the final margin was settled.

Texas A&M will next host Texas A&M-Commerce on Dec. 21. Jacksonville continues its road trip at Florida A&M on Wednesday.

The game’s total points, 187, sailed over the pregame over/under line of 148.5. Texas A&M covered the pregame spread, which had installed the Aggies as 26-point favorites.
