Georgia State vs. New Mexico State
CANCÚN, MEX. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in early-season fortunes will be on display Wednesday when the undefeated New Mexico State Aggies face the struggling Georgia State Panthers in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game at the Cancun Challenge.
New Mexico State (4-0) looks to continue its perfect start, while Georgia State (1-6) seeks to halt a five-game losing skid. The Aggies are coming off a 76-68 victory over in-state rival New Mexico on Nov. 15, their most notable win of the young season.
The Panthers are reeling from a 78-63 home loss to Samford on Tuesday. Despite the defeat, guard Micah Tucker delivered a strong performance, scoring 21 points. He and Malachi Brown, who added 17 points, will be key for a Georgia State offense that has struggled, including a 58-point outing in a lopsided loss to South Dakota State last week.
The Aggies have shown a balanced attack, with Julius Mims (17 points) and Jayland Randall (10 points) leading the way in their win over Samford. Their defense will be tested by a Panthers team desperate for a turnaround.
This neutral-site matchup in Mexico offers Georgia State an opportunity to reset against one of the few remaining unbeaten teams in the country. For New Mexico State, it’s a chance to solidify its hot start before returning to the United States.
