EDINBURG, Texas (Interstat) — Marvin McGhee scored 17 points as Texas-Rio Grande Valley held off a second-half rally to defeat McNeese State 79-76 in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game Saturday at UT Pan Am Field House.

The Vaqueros built a 16-point halftime lead behind hot shooting, making 13 of 27 3-pointers. The Cowboys stormed back, taking a brief lead late, but UTRGV made key free throws in the final seconds. McGhee led four Vaqueros in double figures. Tyshawn Archie scored 23 points for McNeese State, while Javohn Garcia added 19.

UTRGV improved to 7-11. McNeese State, which entered with a 93.6% win probability per Interstat’s ELO system, fell to 14-4.
