Florida A&M at Arkansas-Pine Bluff

SWAC Foes Seek Momentum in Pine Bluff Showdown

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build on recent conference wins will meet Saturday when the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions host the Florida A&M Rattlers in a SWAC men’s basketball matchup at the HPER Complex.

The Golden Lions (6-11) and Rattlers (5-9) enter with identical 2-1 records in league play, both aiming to climb above .500 in the conference.

Florida A&M arrives riding a two-game winning streak after a 91-84 victory over Grambling on Monday. Guard Jaquan Sanders has been a catalyst, pouring in 24 points in that win. Over his last five games, Sanders is averaging 18.2 points, including a 22-point effort in a narrow road loss to Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 3. His backcourt play will be central to the Rattlers’ attack.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff saw a three-game win streak snapped in a 73-61 loss at Prairie View on Monday. The Golden Lions will lean on guard Alex Mirhosseini, who has scored in double figures in four consecutive games. He averaged 15.8 points during the team’s recent homestand, which included SWAC wins over Alabama A&M and Alabama State.

Both teams have shown potency at home but struggled on the road this season. The Golden Lions’ three-game win streak came at the HPER Complex, where they averaged 104.3 points per game against SWAC and non-Division I opponents. Florida A&M is 5-3 at home but 0-6 in true road games, including losses at Georgia Tech and TCU in non-conference play.

The Rattlers’ offense has found a rhythm in conference play, averaging 79 points over their last three outings. Alongside Sanders, Micah Octave (20 points vs. Grambling) and Tyler Shirley have provided consistent scoring.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s defense, which allowed 73 points on 48% shooting at Prairie View, will be tested. The Golden Lions have shown a balanced attack, with Quion Williams adding 15 points in the loss Monday.

Saturday’s contest is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this regular season. Following this game, Florida A&M travels to Mississippi Valley State on Monday, while Arkansas-Pine Bluff hosts Bethune-Cookman the same day.

Tipoff is set for Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, in Pine Bluff.
