Michigan Routs San Diego State in Lopsided Las Vegas Matchup

LAS VEGAS (Interstat) — In a commanding display of offensive firepower and defensive pressure, the Michigan Wolverines remained undefeated with a resounding 94-54 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game Monday night at T-Mobile Arena.

The game, played on November 24, 2025, was never in doubt as the Wolverines built a double-digit lead in the first half and continued to pour it on after halftime. Michigan improved its season record to 5-0, while San Diego State fell to an even 2-2.

From the opening tip, the Aztecs showed early fight. Taj DeGourville opened the scoring with a driving layup, and a three-pointer from Miles Byrd gave San Diego State a brief 5-0 lead. However, that would be the high point for the Aztecs. Michigan quickly responded, with Yaxel Lendeborg answering Byrd’s three with one of his own to get the Wolverines on the board.

That shot sparked a decisive 17-0 run for Michigan, a stretch where San Diego State’s offense went cold and turnovers mounted. The run was punctuated by a three-pointer from Elliot Cadeau, assisted by Roddy Gayle, pushing the Michigan lead to 11-5. The Wolverines’ ball movement and shot creation were superior throughout the half, with Will Tschetter and Lendeborg connecting from deep to extend the advantage.

San Diego State struggled to find any consistent rhythm against Michigan’s swarming defense. While Darrell Harrington and BJ Davis provided sparks off the bench, the Aztecs could not string together enough stops to mount a serious challenge. Michigan’s lead ballooned to 19 points late in the first half before a three-pointer from San Diego State’s Reese Dixon-Waters and a pull-up jumper from Harrington cut the deficit slightly. Still, the Wolverines took a commanding 45-33 lead into the break, capped by a Nimari Burnett three-pointer in the final minute.

Any hopes of a San Diego State comeback were extinguished immediately in the second half. Michigan came out of the locker room with renewed intensity, starting the period on a 12-2 run. The onslaught was led by Morez Johnson, who scored on a hook shot, a putback layup, and a pair of free throws. A three-pointer from Lendeborg, his second of the game, pushed the Michigan lead to 53-35, forcing an early San Diego State timeout.

The Wolverines’ dominance only grew from there. Their defense completely stifled the Aztecs, generating steals and converting them into easy transition baskets. A sequence midway through the half epitomized the game: a steal by Roddy Gayle led to a thunderous dunk from Gayle on the other end, extending the lead to 61-39 and prompting another San Diego State timeout.

Michigan’s offense was a model of efficiency and balance. Ten different Wolverines scored, with six players reaching double figures. The team’s ball movement was exceptional, leading to numerous open looks from beyond the arc and easy baskets at the rim. The lead continued to swell, reaching 40 points in the final minutes as Michigan’s reserves closed out the game. A three-pointer from Trey McKenney with just over a minute remaining provided the final margin of victory.

Yaxel Lendeborg led all scorers for Michigan, contributing 15 points to go with four assists. He was instrumental in both halves, hitting key shots and facilitating the offense. Elliot Cadeau also tallied 13 points, including several crucial three-pointers that helped break the game open. Morez Johnson was a force inside, scoring 13 points and registering a block, while Roddy Gayle filled the stat sheet with 11 points and relentless defensive energy. Nimari Burnett and Will Tschetter each added 11 points, with Tschetter’s scoring coming off the bench. The towering presence of Aday Mara was felt defensively, as the 7-foot-3 center recorded three blocks.

For San Diego State, Darrell Harrington led the way with 15 points in 22 minutes of action. BJ Davis was the only other Aztec in double figures, finishing with 11 points. The team was plagued by turnovers and an inability to sustain offensive possessions against the longer, more athletic Wolverines.

The victory extends Michigan’s strong start to the season, which includes an overtime win against Wake Forest and a decisive victory over TCU. San Diego State, coming off a double-overtime loss to Troy, will look to regroup quickly as it faces Oregon next in Las Vegas. Michigan, meanwhile, prepares for another high-profile neutral-site clash against Auburn.

According to pregame projections, Michigan was favored by 7.5 points. The total score of 148 points fell just under the over/under line of 149. Interstat’s ELO system had given the Wolverines a 66.4 percent probability to win, a forecast they exceeded with a dominant 40-point performance.
