Winthrop at George Mason
FAIRFAX, Va. (Interstat) — Two teams coming off dominant opening-night victories, the Winthrop Eagles and George Mason Patriots, will put their early-season momentum on the line Friday at EagleBank Arena.
Both teams enter the non-conference matchup with 1-0 records. Winthrop opened its season with an 81-74 home win over Queens (N.C.) on Monday, powered by a 23-point, five-rebound performance from guard Daylen Berry. Forward Logan Duncomb added 12 points and eight rebounds.
George Mason was equally impressive in its debut, cruising to a 70-46 victory over Wofford. The Patriots were led by guard Kory Mincy, who scored 18 points and dished out six assists. Riley Allenspach and Masai Troutman added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The game represents a challenging early road test for the Eagles, who will embark on a stretch with five of their next six games away from home. For the Patriots, it is the second of three straight home contests to begin the season before a trip to a multi-team event in Daytona Beach, Florida, later this month.
Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EST on Friday, Nov. 7.
