Army at Lafayette
EASTON, Pa. (Interstat) — Two Patriot League men’s basketball teams seeking momentum to close the regular season will meet Saturday when Army visits Lafayette at Kirby Sports Center.
The Black Knights (11-19) and Leopards (10-19) enter the 2 p.m. matchup with nearly identical records and little chance of improving their seeding for the upcoming conference tournament. Both teams are coming off narrow results in their last outings, but with opposite fortunes.
Army fell 75-73 to Bucknell on Wednesday despite a 21-point performance from sophomore guard Tate Laczkowski. Lafayette secured a 70-69 road victory over Colgate the same day, fueled by 15 points from Mark Butler and a key contribution off the bench from freshman KaiMani Murdock, who scored nine points.
Laczkowski has emerged as a player to watch for Army, averaging 12.3 points over his last three games. His season-high 21 points against Bucknell showcased his scoring potential. For Lafayette, Murdock provides energy in reserve, coming off his most productive game in a month against Colgate.
This game is a quick rematch of a Feb. 7 contest at West Point, which Lafayette won 63-60. In that game, the Leopards held Army to 32.8% shooting from the field. Army will look to avenge that loss and snap a two-game skid, while Lafayette aims to build on its upset of Colgate and secure a season series sweep.
The matchup features two of the lower-scoring offenses in the Patriot League. Army averages 67.2 points per game, while Lafayette scores 66.1 per contest. Rebounding and defense, which decided the first meeting, will likely be critical again.
With the postseason on the horizon, both teams will use this final regular-season game to iron out rotations and build confidence. Army last won at Kirby Sports Center during the 2022-23 season.
