ABILENE, Texas (Interstat) — SMU held off a persistent Notre Dame team for an 89-81 men’s basketball victory Tuesday night at Moody Coliseum. The Mustangs improved to 17-7, while the Fighting Irish fell to 11-14.

Jaron Pierre led SMU with 22 points, and Boopie Miller added 20 points and seven assists. Jalen Haralson scored a game-high 23 points for Notre Dame in the loss.

SMU shot 52.5% from the field and made 13 3-pointers. Notre Dame shot 53.4% and hit 11 from beyond the arc but was hampered by 12 offensive rebounds allowed. The Mustangs led 43-37 at halftime and maintained a narrow margin throughout the second half. A crowd of 5,819 attended the Atlantic Coast Conference game.
