Florida at Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Interstat) — The surging Florida Gators, riding a nine-game winning streak, aim to solidify their SEC title credentials when they visit the reeling Kentucky Wildcats at Rupp Arena on Saturday in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Florida (24-6, 14-3 SEC) enters with commanding momentum, having won its last nine contests by an average margin of 23.2 points. That dominant run includes a 92-83 victory over Kentucky in Gainesville on Feb. 14. The Gators are coming off a 108-74 demolition of Mississippi State where Alex Condon scored 26 points and Xaivian Lee added 19 points and six assists.

Lee, the dynamic junior guard, has been the catalyst for Florida’s high-octane offense. Over the last eight games, he has averaged 14.3 points and 6.1 assists while shooting efficiently. He torched Kentucky for 22 points in the first meeting.

Kentucky (19-11, 9-8) finds itself in a starkly different position, having lost four of its last six games to fall onto the NCAA Tournament bubble. The Wildcats’ defense has faltered, allowing 90 or more points in three of those losses, including a 96-85 defeat at Texas A&M on Tuesday.

The Wildcats will lean heavily on senior guard Otega Oweh, who is averaging 21.0 points over his last seven games. He scored 24 in the loss at Texas A&M and 29 in a narrow defeat at Auburn. However, his 13-point performance in the first matchup with Florida was below his recent standard.

This game carries significant postseason implications. Florida can clinch at least a share of the SEC regular-season championship with a win. For Kentucky, a victory against a top-10 rival is likely essential to bolster its resume and avoid a nervous Selection Sunday. The Wildcats will need a dramatic defensive improvement to slow a Gator offense averaging 90.8 points during its winning streak.

Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. EST at Rupp Arena. The game will be televised on CBS.
